Krav Maga was founded in 1910 by Imi Lichtenfeld, who was very athletic and eventually joined the police in his native Hungary. He learned street fighting techniques he eventually refined over the years protecting his Jewish neighbors and himself in the mean streets of Bratislava during the 1030′s.

Lichtenfeld was driven out of Europe before WWII and ended up in Israel helping to form that nation. He started teaching Israel soldiers self defense that was eventually refined ito a self defense and fighting technique for the Israeli government and incorporated into the Israel Defense Force. He went on to be the senior instructor at the school for physical instruction & Krav Maga.

We read an article about Crime Stoppers in Central Ohio offering free self defense classes to women, as police hunt for the “Northwest Serial Rapist.”

You might want to see if Crimes Stoppers has any locations near you, as I bet they also have their free self defense classes in your neighborhood. You should also call your local police or sheriff to ask if they offer self defense classes for women.

“What’s nice is that they realize that they have permission to protect themselves,” Sloan said. “They’re allow to strike back, they’re allowed to yell, they’re allowed to take charge of their lives and do whatever it takes to get away from a perpetrator.”

Women who participated in the class said they now have that feeling.

“I think it has transformed a lot of paranoia in women into empowerment and more awareness instead of fear,” said one of the women who attended the class.

The Israel army teaches it’s soldiers an incredible fighting technique called Krav Maga. Krav Maga is a Hebrew phrase traslated to contact combat, is a military hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel, which assumes no quarter will be given, and emphasizes maximum threat neutralization in a “real life” context.

We found a FREE quick down and dirty video that covers groin kicks. Now I don’t know about you, I have been hit in the groin, and it is not any fun. I like this video because it does not waste a lot time, it goes right to it.

The most important part of a kick is to bring your knee up first, then you snap your leg out, and hit the groin with the shin bone above the foot.

We love that the goal is to kick through to the head, which will give you a lot of power to delivery to a fragile area.

A good groin kick will cause a man to buckle over. Now is the time to hit him with either your pepper spray, or a stun gun. 10-20 seconds with a stun gun will take them down.

We saw a great article about the 6 Keys of Effective Self Defense at the Sport Station blog. The majority of these are simple, being aware of your situation and surroundings and to be ready for the worst.

It’s pretty much a given not to be walking alone in the dark in dangerous places if you are a women. If so, you need several things to help you get out safely. You need some good, basic self defense classes, not judo, real world techniques to stop attackers. The Police department or a YWCA would be a good start. Online searches for businesses in your area that offer these classes would be another good idea.

Then, you gotta have the mindset not to get an attacker get the best of you. You have to do that with mental preparation and practice. Then it helps to have some tools to level the playing field.

One is from Mace International and it’s their Mace Triple Action Pepper Spray, which also contains Tear Gas and an identifying UV dye to help identify the attacker hours after the attack.

We like this spray because it also has tear gas, which will make you cry profusly, snot and mucus will pour out your nose and mouth and you will drop to the ground, unable to function. I know from experience, when I was in the Army, we had to take off our gas mask in a room of tear gas and it burned my face and liquid started flowing out of my eyes, nose, and mouth.

Combine that with the ultra strong Mace 10% pepper spray, which will slam shut their eyes, and make breathing even more difficult. Dump the entire canister on the punks face for maximum protection.

Police report: Federal agent’s death due to road rage
A police report says today that U.S. border protection agent Donald Pettit died as the result of a road rage incident.

The report said both Pettit and James Patrick Wonder, the man charged with his murder, exchanged obscene gestures with each other as they drove along Dykes Road Tuesday morning.

Wow, a guy gets killed for flipping the bird. How often have you flipped the bird when you are driving? It’s funny how just sticking up one of our fingers can enrage someone enough to do things they normally wouldn’t do.

Sometimes not reacting and turning the other cheek is the best self defense…
