It’s important that people learn self defense techniques, and no better time than when they are young, so it’s ingrained. The Marietta Police & the Warren school district put on some self defense classes for high school girls.

And the school district is considering making self defense a required class, which we feel is a great idea. All schools should have self defense as part of anyone education. I remember square dancing in High School for a while in P.E. Class, gym for you Easteners. I remember when I moved from New York to Arizona, they didn’t wear sneakers, they wore tennis shoes. And I found out how the name sneakers came about here.

Any way, one little gem is a quote from one of the instructors that we need to do a little checking up on. The quote was that 1 out of every 4 college girls will be raped, 75% of the time during the Freshman year, when they are fresh off the turnip truck.

6 hours ago, I started to write this blog. Since then, I have done many things, and there are dozens more things to do, though I have to put this up.

We saw some Martial Arts Training Videos over @ Self Defense Moves. Starting with some basics, they go over the 4 stages of learning martial arts in a home study, or even any training environment. The videos are free and just good reinforcements for that Defend Thyself mindset.

I like the first stage, Unconscious Incompetence. That’s where a lot of us are; we are ignorant of basis moves & techniques that can save your life. The rest of the article looks good, and the video is free, and I am sure they have more, so check it out.

We read a great article here about the Combative Cane class at the Charlotte, N.C.’s Atria MerryWood senior living center! What a great idea! A cane is usually made of strong wood or metal; perfect for bashing in the head of some punk that tries to take your money.

Seniors use canes for self-defense

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Combat isn’t the first thing you think about when you see someone walking with a cane.

But older adults learned they make good weapons at recent Combat Cane classes at Charlotte, N.C.’s Atria MerryWood senior living center.

From Connecticut to California, cane self-defense — or “cane-fu” — is the latest trend to hit senior centers. Retirees practice whacking bad guys with walking sticks while building self-confidence and muscle tone.

In the Charlotte, N.C., area, the classes are still novel. While most seniors will never raise a cane against attackers, experts said the workouts increase heart and lung function as well as mental acuity.

And as MerryWood residents learned, it’s fun to wave sticks around like the Three Musketeers. “Do you mind if I knock your head off?” a gray-haired woman in a red dress asked a classmate wearing a hearing aid.

Don’t get me started on punks attacking elderly people; many of our customers are elderly and are vunerable to some 20something punk who wants their cash.

Now we see there is a Combative Cane course that you can attend to help defend thyself!

And, there is a great site called Defend Yourself 101 that teaches how to use a cane to fight off an attacker, and they have a video for sale so you can study at home.

If you are elderly, or just need a cane to get around, don’t feel you have to be a victim; use that stick for something like beating down a punk that wants to mess up your day. Turn it around and mess up his.

It’s really a good idea to have all the tools you need to defend thyself against physical attack, and the main way is the mental aspect of it. You have to believe you will prevail and with the proper tools, like Pepper Sprays and Stun Guns, you can survive and win an attack.

We stumbled on a new video site that focuses on Self Defense videos. The site is Self Defense Video News, and it’s packed full of video’s remotely related to Self Defense.

While the one on the Pop Warner teams fighting really would not qualify in my book, we like the rest that focus on self defense training techniques and reporting about citizens who captured a violent suspect in a violent robbery.

We found a forum for everything related to Krav Maga on the Krav Maga website.

Krav Maga was founded in 1910 by Imi Lichtenfeld, who was very athletic and eventually joined the police in his native Hungary. He learned street fighting techniques he eventually refined over the years protecting his Jewish neighbors and himself in the mean streets of Bratislava during the 1030’s.

Lichtenfeld was driven out of Europe before WWII and ended up in Israel helping to form that nation. He started teaching Israel soldiers self defense that was eventually refined ito a self defense and fighting technique for the Israeli government and incorporated into the Israel Defense Force. He went on to be the senior instructor at the school for physical instruction & Krav Maga.
