Soldier dies after bar fight over Jimmy Buffett song in Steamboat

A soldier from Fort Bragg died this morning in Denver from injuries suffered from a bar fight in Steamboat Springs on Friday night over a Jimmy Buffett song.

Richard Lopez, 37, of Fayetteville, N.C., was pronounced dead at 4:16 a.m. today at Denver Health Medical Center. An autopsy by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s office is scheduled for Tuesday.

“This is a very sad and serious case,” said Capt. Joel Rae with Steamboat Springs police.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.

The incident occurred before 12:15 a.m. Friday when police were called to a fight between five people outside the Tap House.

“The initial disagreement was about music being played on the jukebox,” said Rae, adding that it was a Jimmy Buffet song.

“Richard Lopez and two other individuals put on the song, but two other individuals did not agree with it.”

It was not known which Jimmy Buffett song was being played at the time, but the fight was taken outside the bar.

Ok, so how many times have we told you it’s better to shut your trap instead of flap your lips and get them smashed. How many times do we have to report that if you turn the other cheek or bite your lip, you could live another day.

Though why the hell were two grown men arguing about a freaking Jimmy Buffett song????

And no one did a thing to stop this? This guy was a Ranger in the Army and another guy beat him to death, with his hands. Many that guy must be one Bad Mutha!

It’s been reported that MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski was mugged outside a well-known Washington hotel while waiting for a car to pick her up for the 6 a.m.

Brzezinski, who co-hosts a morning show called “Morning Joe,” met her morning Joe, some punk who mugged her for $6 bucks.

I have been to DC once, and there are some scary parts, yet this was in front of a Hilton hotel.

Hats off to a man in California not only disarmed an armed robber, he beat the hell out of him so bad he had to go to an emergency room. KCAL 9 reported that some punk with a gun just waltzes into a persons home with a gun and wants their money.

The punk asked if others were in the home, and there were a couple other adults and a child at home in another room. The man’s brother came out and wanted all the people to come out. The brother went back into a bedroom to get his wife out the window, and the first man took the punk in the other bedroom to look for cash. Still with me?

When the punk was looking for the cash, he cocked the gun and that is when the first man took it away, after it went off near his neck and went into the ceiling. Then they proceeded to beat the hell out of the guy so bad he slithered away and ended up in the hospitals ER room.

The first man’s hand was bruised pretty bad, though hats off for disarming the punk and saving your family.

A simple product under $20 called a door brace could have prevented this. Basically it’s a metal rod with a flat plate on the bottom and a U-shaped top. You shove the top under your door knob and push the flat plat under it. Unless they have an elephant with them, no punk will just waltz into your home and steal and possibly kill you.

Krav Maga was founded in 1910 by Imi Lichtenfeld, who was very athletic and eventually joined the police in his native Hungary. He learned street fighting techniques he eventually refined over the years protecting his Jewish neighbors and himself in the mean streets of Bratislava during the 1030′s.

Lichtenfeld was driven out of Europe before WWII and ended up in Israel helping to form that nation. He started teaching Israel soldiers self defense that was eventually refined ito a self defense and fighting technique for the Israeli government and incorporated into the Israel Defense Force. He went on to be the senior instructor at the school for physical instruction & Krav Maga.

While we never think about it, we can be a victim of crime at any time. With so many people out of work, many are resorting to crime to pay the bills. The question is not will you be a victim, rather when will it be your turn?

A great website to bookmark is The Crime Doctor, who has an interesting article on protecting your family during a home invasion robbery. Many great points are brought up that you should burn to memory.

Residential robberies usually occur during the day when no one is home and the signs are there that a burglar is looking for. They work alone and are quickly in and out.

There are many things you can do to discourage burglars:

Home invasion robberies are different and you should be ready for such an attack. Many types of people are candidates, single women, elderly people, wealthy people, drug dealers, or business owners. They might follow you home, or they might be waiting at your home or business.

They usually work at night and weekends, under the cover of darkness and when someone is home. They work in teams and overwhelm you with violence, fear, and aggressive action that could hurt or kill you.

You have about 60 seconds to repel the attack, otherwise your chances of emerging safely decrease as the time goes by. There was a recent movie with two yuppie college boys who did just this. They would be seen at a house by the neighbors, before the struggle with the owners, then they would bound them and hold them hostage.

Will you be ready to repel the attack? You should plan this through before you are caught with your pants down. There are many products you can use to prevent or repel the attacks, or at least slow them down.

Your first line of defense should be an outdoor motion detection system that will alert you when someone comes onto your property. The Voice Alert Driveway And Home Alarm System is an inexpensive perimeter security system that blankets an area with invisible infrared sensors. When someone crosses in front of them, the sensors send a signal to the base station that has pre-recorded alerts that identify where on your property the sensor is activated. Set up one for the front yard or driveway, one for the backyard or gate, one by your side door and one by the garage.

As mentioned before, bars on the widows will prevent them from coming in through a window. Thick, solid doors with no window inserts and one or two sturdy dead bolts will prevent most doors from being kicked in. The inside door lock should be a key and not a knob, as they can be quickly opened to let in the rest of the attackers.

If you don’t want to live in a prison, you can get inexpensive window breakage detectors like the Mace Window Alert Window Alarm that will sound a loud alarm if the window is broken open.

Inside the house, or if you live in an apartment, there are other motion detection devices like the Mace Motion Alert that will alert you and the police when there is movement. Several motion detectors will blanket a room with an invisible field and if anyone crosses it, it will activate a loud alarm.

Even better are motion detectors with auto dialers that will automatically call a series of pre-programed numbers, and some have loud alarms that will alert the neighbors. Some popular ones are the Cybereye ECHO, which is a silent alarm motion and fire detector that will call up to 5 numbers and depending on if it’s motion or fire, call the police or fire department.

One better is the Mace Wireless Home Security System, which comes with door and window sensors that send a signal to a base station that then sounds a loud alarm and calls a series of phone numbers, including the police.

These are great products to have if you are home, or even on vacation.

The next step is a safe room that has a reinforced entry, is stocked with food, water, weapons, communication devices, and a breathing device should tear gas, pepper spray, or other gas be forced into the room.

However, none of this stuff will do you any good if you keep your windows or doors open or unlocked. You need to educate yourself and your family and practice what you would do when there is a knock at the door, or when there is a loud bang at the door, or a window is broken.

Other good tips are use your doors peephole, or install a peephole door camera so you can see it from the living room or the office. Call the police if you see suspicious figures and let your neighbors know if a shady person comes to your door that you don’t trust.

A good video surveillance system for indoor and outdoor is also beneficial. If you have been watching the news, you have seen massive lay-offs all across the country and crime has gone up, up, and up! Theft and burglary has been increasing in every city, and unless you have someone watching your place night and day, or a guard dog, you have a good chance of being robbed.

When it is in front of you, it doesn’t sound that scary, however, when we went outside, it sounded like a medium sized dog was in the back part of the house barking away.

If we lingered around, it would change it’s bark and get a little more aggressive. If you live alone and are elderly, or a single women, for the price of dinner and a movie, you have a good alarm that should scare away most burglars.

If you own a business, you can set it to sound a chime, or a jungle sound, when there is movement, like when a customer walks in the door to alert you.

The Mayor & Council of Washington D.C. continue their attempt to ban handguns. These idiots just don’t get it.

They are now saying the ban will be in effect everywhere except the home. You still have to register them and there will be books of regulations on how to store them.

“We continue to take every step we can to minimize handgun violence in the District,” said Mayor Fenty. “We must prevent handguns from falling into the wrong hands or being misused, while allowing District residents to exercise their Second Amendment rights under the Heller ruling.”

The proposed legislation has four main components:

1. Continues to ban handguns in most places but creates an exception for self-defense in the home. The handgun ban remains in effect, except for use in self-defense within the home. Sawed-off shotguns, machine guns and short-barreled rifles are still prohibited.

2. Requires the Metropolitan Police Department to perform ballistic testing on handguns and makes such testing a registration requirement. The Chief of Police will require ballistics tests of any handgun submitted for registration to determine if it is stolen or has been used in a crime. Also, to serve as many residents as possible, the Chief will limit registrations to one handgun per person for the first 90 days after the legislation becomes law.

3. Clarifies the safe-storage and trigger-lock requirements. The legislation modifies existing law to clarify that firearms in the home must be stored unloaded and either disassembled secured with a trigger lock, gun safe, or similar device. An exception is made for a firearm while it is being used against reasonably perceived threat of immediate harm to a person within

Because they are so concerned with guns getting into the wrong hands, they will punish everyone to go after the few. We look forward to this pathetic law being struck down also.

Neither am I happy about the Supreme Court Justices who barely affirmed the Constitution means what it says. They seem to feel the US Government was created to regulate us to death, which is the exact opposite of why the US Govt. was created.

This morning I was driving to the office and saying how today was going to be such a great day and to make it full of joy, and to expell all the negative out of my soul. When you hit 48, you start realizing one day, my clock will stop, and to enjoy what is left of life.

As I headed to the office, I exit the freeway and started down a windy road that winds and curves, and my Crossfire handles it great. Today, it’s drizzly, and wet and I can’t go too fast. The stupid red light 50 feet after the exit turns red as soon as i get off, so I have to wait. I start down the hill and I see one of those big black Monster trucks trying to blast down the hill, only the person in front of him was next to me in the right lane.

He cuts behind me and he can practically run my little car over, tailgating inches from my ass. A road crew putting in traffic lights at a new office park holds up a slow sign and the limit is only 25. Monster truck cuts back over to the right and is a cat wiskers distance from the car in front of him.

On a wet road with a 25 mph on a rainy day, Monster truck boy wants to go 80. It’s frustrating and so easy to get perturbed at this jackass. We come to the light and he is in the right land and I pull into the left turn lane. The truck is all black, dark tinted windows, menacing and agressive. It makes you wonder what kind of person this is.

My first thoughts were to give him the free bird, yet I start to remember my mental training that I have blogged on before. The self defense of shutting your mouth instead of opening it. The self defense of why risk a confrontation when I could so easily avoid it. If I did some jesture, what would have stopped him from jumping out and trying to get in a fight, or shoot me?

I drove by and tried to see what type of person was driving such a vehicle, and I saw the outline of some young guy. I felt good knowing that it cost him about $100 to fill up his gas tank, and that I only gave him the evil eye, as I drove by clutching my Wildfire 18% Pepper Spray, just in case…

Wow, the slow down in our economy has forced large numbers of US Citizens into criminals that are breaking into homes and businesses in record numbers. No matter what city you live in, I will guarantee you that home and business theft is rapidly rising.

I spoke to a lady today in Texas who say some punk just waltzed into her back yard, and was trying to break in to the house. She screamed, “what the ^%*# are you doing here?”, and went to get her gun. The police arrested him thereafter and he said he was looking for his dog. In her house???

A rash of robberies in a Hollywood neighborhood had the residents fighting back on Tuesday.

One family in the Emerald Hills subdivision said they hope home surveillance systems will help police catch the robbers.

The (Name withheld) family said it was on high alert after two men were caught on tape robbing homes in the neighborhood.

“These are young children…” “I mean, I call them children because they look very young on the video surveillance, and they’re walking around with guns waving it around like nothing, like it’s just another day in the neighborhood.”

The men broke into the home in the middle of the day, making their way through each room, rummaging through precious belongings and taking off with valuables in a matter of minutes.
